Reverend Emma Salter
Emma Salter is the Senior
Pastor of Joy Tabernacle Christian Ministries, Inc. in Newark,
New Jersey. God has called her to a ministry of deliverance and
reconciliation. Her messages of hope, victory and empowerment
through repentance result in broken hearts being mended, families
reunited and shattered
lives restored by the awesome power of the Holy Spirit. She is
committed to the less fortunate within the community. To this
end, her ministry offers many services needed by the community
including a soup kitchen, youth programs, marriage counseling,
tutoring programs, nursing home ministry, block explosions, adult
education and other outreach programs. Because of her unique anointing
to minister to those who are going through major physical, emotional,
spiritual and financial difficulty, many now realize that though
they were once cast down in life, they are not destroyed (Cor
4:8-9).
Reverend Salter is a
living testimony. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in
1998 and enduring lengthy
sessions of chemotherapy for eight months, she is joyfully professing
the healing, which the Lord promised. She is a constant reminder
to her congregation and all who meet her that the miracle-working
Savior we read about in the gospel is indeed the same yesterday,
today and forever.
Reverend Salter was ordained an Elder in 1977
under the Tabernacle Churches of God. Over the past twenty-five
years she has served the church in various capacities including
Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Youth Leader, Missionary
and Assistant Pastor. Reverend Salter was installed as Pastor
of JTCM, Inc. in 1993 after the retiring of her mother, the late
Overseer Josephine Byrd. She motivates people to strive for excellence
in every aspect of life, especially education. In 1994, she received
her B.A. from Kean University in Early Childhood Education. Her
leadership by example has inspired many people in her congregation
to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees. Many who had once
been defeated by education have been inspired to enroll in GED
courses offered by the ministry.
In 1999, Reverend Salter received recognition
from Irvington Public Schools as Role Model for Multicultural
Harmony. She is the Founder of Higher Learning Christian Academy
and Dean of Joy Center for Biblical Studies. In 2000, the City
of Newark issued a resolution recognizing Reverend Salter for
her commitment and continuous contributions to the residents of
Newark.
Her husband Samuel B. Salter supports Reverend
Salter in the ministry. They are the proud parents of five grown
children and the doting grandparents of nine grandchildren. They
reside happily in the Township of Piscataway, New Jersey.
